How to sort laundry correctly
A colour match alone is not enough. A safe load also needs compatible care instructions, fabric types and soil levels.
Start with the full care label
The maximum temperature is not the only instruction. A bar calls for a milder cycle; hand wash and do-not-wash must be followed.
Sort by colour and colourfastness
Keep white, light, dark and bright colours apart. Wash new or possibly non-colourfast textiles separately first.
Match fabric and soil level
Separate delicate fabrics from heavy fabrics and heavily soiled items from lightly soiled laundry.
Frequently asked combinations
Towels and clothes?
Prefer separate loads. Towels can shed lint and their weight and suitable programme may differ. Only combine when colour, labels, soil level and cycle genuinely match.
Bedding and towels?
Sometimes, if colours and labels match and the drum has enough room. Do not pack the drum tightly.
Jeans and dark clothes?
Sometimes, if the jeans are colourfast, not new and the labels match. New denim is safer in a separate load.
Sportswear and towels?
Prefer separate loads. Technical fabrics can attract lint and often need a gentler, cooler cycle than towels.
Wool and everyday clothes?
No. Wool may require a wool or very mild cycle and a specialist detergent. Follow the garment label.
Does a lower temperature make everything compatible?
No. Colourfastness, mechanical action, fabric construction, detergent and soil level still matter.
